What Is the Keyword Golden Ratio (KGR)?

July 10, 2026 · Ajay Kumar

The Keyword Golden Ratio (KGR) is a filter for finding long-tail keywords with almost no title-tag competition. The formula: divide the number of Google results with the exact phrase in their title (allintitle) by the keyword’s monthly search volume. A KGR below 0.25 signals a phrase you can often rank for within days of publishing decent content.

The formula, precisely

KGR = allintitle result count ÷ monthly search volume, used only on keywords with volume under roughly 250. Under 0.25 is the classic buy zone; 0.25 to 1.0 is workable with some authority; above 1.0 means real competition for a tiny prize.

How to run it, step by step

First, generate long-tail candidates: question phrases, comparisons, specific problems, usually four or more words. Second, pull search volumes from your keyword tool and keep only the under-250 crowd. Third, for each survivor, search Google for allintitle:”your exact phrase” and record the result count. Fourth, divide and sort. Fifth, publish genuinely helpful answers for the winners and watch indexing, because KGR wins often rank in the first week.

Why the ratio works

Titles are the strongest declaration of intent a page makes. When almost nobody on the internet has titled a page for a phrase real people search monthly, the demand is unclaimed. KGR simply measures that gap and tells you where the door is open.

The honest limitations

Volume data on tiny keywords is noisy, so treat numbers as bands. Allintitle counts fluctuate; check twice on borderline calls. Some zero-title phrases are unclaimed because they earn nothing, so pair KGR with intent judgment. And twenty KGR posts will not outrank a weak site’s structural problems; they compound on a healthy foundation, not instead of one.

How many KGR posts should I publish?

Batches of ten to twenty per quarter work well: enough to build topical clusters, spaced enough to keep quality high. Each post should still be the best answer available, not a checkbox.

Does KGR still work with AI Overviews eating clicks?

Long-tail questions are exactly where Overviews and assistants pull citations from, and low-competition phrases are the easiest citations to win. KGR now feeds two surfaces for the price of one.
